SEATTLE, WA — At a time when many professional sports leagues are scaling back their Pride celebrations, the Seattle Sounders are doing the opposite. The club made this year’s annual Pride Match of Inclusion larger and more visible, sending a powerful message of solidarity before 30,026 fans at Lumen Field Sunday night.
Ahead of the weekend’s Pride matches, members of Seattle Reign FC and the Sounders gathered at Lumen Field to raise the Progress Pride Flag, marking the beginning of a celebration centered on visibility, acceptance, and belonging.
The Emerald City Supporters (ECS) reinforced that message with this year’s striking Tifo display, which read: “Always Here, Always Proud.”
The words carried a significance that extends far beyond a single match. Transgender, non-binary, Two-Spirit, and queer people have always been part of our communities and have existed throughout history. Despite repeated attempts to erase, silence, or marginalize people who identify and live their truth, LGBTQ+ communities continue to stand proudly and visibly.
The Sounders also used the occasion to support organizations doing that work every day. A portion of proceeds from the club’s 2026 Pride Collection, designed by local artist Esmeralda Vasquez, benefited the RAVE Foundation, which partners with and supports organizations serving the LGBTQ+ community.
Pride was woven throughout the match day experience. Players arrived wearing green jerseys featuring Pride-colored numbers on the back, while Pride flags lined the corners of the pitch, creating a colorful display of support inside Lumen Field.
On the field, however, the night ended in disappointment for Seattle.
The Sounders suffered an upset 2–0 loss to the visiting Vancouver Whitecaps. Both teams battled through a tightly contested match, with strong defensive play keeping the score level deep into the second half. Vancouver eventually broke through late, scoring twice to secure the victory.
While the result wasn’t what Seattle hoped for, the larger message of the evening remained clear: Always here. Always proud.
