July 16, 2026 – Seattle Sounders FC hosted their Pacific rivals, the Portland Timbers, on Thursday night in the highly anticipated Cascadia Cup match.
Fans were eager to cheer on the home team after a 53-day break, as Lumen Field recently served as a venue for the Fifa Men’s World Cup.
Midfielder Cristian Roldan waved to the crowd of 35,383 as he was honored for his selection to Team USA in the 2026 FIFA Men’s World Cup Roldan played in one game as an unused substitute in the 4-1 win over Paraguay.
The Timbers opened the scoring early in the first half, but the Sounders’ defense remained strong for the remainder of that half. However, shortly after the beginning of the second half, the Timbers scored three goals consecutively.
Hassani Dotson from Federal Way, WA scored his first career MLS goal and only goal for the Seattle Sounders in the 87th minute, but the Timbers quickly responded with a fifth goal to conclude the match.
The disappointing 1-5 loss, marks the second time in Sounders franchise when they have lost by that scoreline.

Prior to kickoff, the Sounders inducted three new members into their Circle of Legends: former coach Sigi Schmid, who passed away in 2018; former midfielder Jimmy Gabriel, who passed away in 2021; and former captain and goalkeeper Kasey Keller, the first individual player to be inducted into the Eternal Sounders Circle of Legends.
