June 12, 2026 (Seattle, WA) — The Seattle Storm hosted their annual Black Excellence celebration on Thursday night at Climate Pledge Arena as they welcomed the visiting Golden State Valkyries.

Returning to her former home court was forward Gabby Williams, who signed a multi-year contract with the Valkyries before the start of the season. Williams scored 19 points, while Janelle Salaün added 22 points to lead Golden State to a narrow 76–72 victory over Seattle.

The loss marked the Storm’s eighth consecutive defeat, adding to the frustration felt by both the team and its fan base despite several standout individual performances.

Storm Stats and Game Highlights

  • Natisha Hiedeman recorded a career-high 26 points, including five three-pointers.
  • Dominique Malonga contributed nine points and matched her season high with eight rebounds.

Seattle outscored Golden State in the first and fourth quarters, while the Valkyries controlled the second and third quarters.

Spotlight on Samuelson

Katie Lou Samuelson scored eight points with perfect shooting, helping the Storm in the second quarter.

Black Excellence Celebration Highlights

Local artist Yolanda Galery designed a special apparel collection for the event.

Afro Dance Seattle led an Afro dance performance and interactive workshop prior to tipoff.

$5 from every ticket purchased was donated directly to Dignity for Divas. Founder, Nikki Gane, who was recognized during the event for her efforts in empowering women in her community. The organization was also a Heroes of the Deep recipient in 2024.
