Peoria, Arizona – February 19, 2026 – The Seattle Mariners started spring training last week ahead of their first pre-season game on February 20th against the San Diego Padres at 12:10 PT.

This spring, the roster includes 13 right handed pitchers, 3 left handed pitchers, 7 outfielders, 7 infielders, 6 catchers, and 23 pitchers. Invitees include a mix of promising young players and experienced veterans competing for roster spots after a busy offseason.

Notable Departures

Several familiar faces will not be returning to Seattle in 2026. Veteran catcher Mitch Garver departed via free agency and top prospect Harry Ford was traded to the Washington Nationals.

Catching Corps Headlined by an MVP Runner-Up

All eyes this spring will be on catcher Cal Raleigh, who had an amazing season last year. Raleigh was the runner-up for the 2025 American League MVP award, hitting 60 home runs and getting 125 RBIs, leading all catchers and switch-hitters in home runs. He lost the MVP vote to Aaron Judge from the New York Yankees.

Last March, Raleigh also secured his future in Seattle by signing a six-year, $105 million contract extension that lasts until 2030, with an option for 2031.

Joining him behind the plate are veteran Andrew Knizner, who signed a one-year, $1 million free-agent deal, and Jhonny Pereda, acquired in a trade with the Minnesota Twins. Pereda enters camp with one minor league option remaining, adding flexibility to the roster competition.

Brian O’Keefe returned to Mariners training camp with a new minor league contract from the Mariners. The veteran catcher made his MLB debut in 2022 at T-Mobile Park and appeared in 10 games through 2023. In 2025 O’Keefe played with the Tacoma Rainiers the Mariners Triple A affiliate.

Reinforced Infield Anchors Lineup

The Mariners signed slugger Josh Naylor to a five-year, $92.5 million free-agent contract, signaling a clear commitment to bolstering the heart of the order.

Naylor recently warmed the hearts of many fans after photos of him with the Mariners pup circulated online. He spoke about his affection for Tucker at a recent press conference joking to members of the front office that the clubhouse dog “was a big reason why he came back“.

The infield features promising young second baseman Cole Young, steady third baseman Brendan Donovan, and veteran shortstop J.P. Crawford.

The 31-year-old Crawford enters the final season of his five-year, $51 million contract, providing leadership and stability up the middle.

A Competitive Camp Ahead

With a mix of well-known players, big financial investments, and eager non-roster invitees wanting to impress, Seattle’s camp in Peoria is set to be one of the most competitive in a long time.

For fans going to Arizona, the 2026 Mariners offer familiarity and new excitement with a team aiming to improve on last season’s highlights while changing the roster for another shot at the playoffs.
