October 12, 2025 – Toronto, Canada. The Seattle Mariners secured a 3-1 victory in the opening game of the 2025 American League Championship Series (ALCS) as outstanding pitching stifled the Toronto Blue Jays at the Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario

Seattle’s offense put pressure on the basepaths early as catcher Cal Raleigh and center fielder Julio Rodríguez singled to place runners on the corners with one out in the top of the first inning. Toronto starting pitcher Kevin Gausman escaped the jam, though, inducing a fielder’s choice groundout and a lineout to end the inning.

Blue Jays center fielder George Springer immediately got Toronto on the board, belting a leadoff home run to right field. Springer’s long ball was the 21st of his postseason career, passing former New York Yankees infielder Derek Jeter for fifth-place on the all-time postseason home run list.

Tying the game 1-1 in the top of the sixth inning following five scoreless frames was Raleigh, who blasted a solo home run to right center field. The home run was Raleigh’s second of the postseason and 62nd of the year when combining totals with his regular season home run count.

Giving the Mariners the upper hand in the same frame was second baseman Jorge Polanco, who hit an RBI single after Rodríguez walked and advanced to second base on a wild pitch.

Following Springer’s home run, Mariners starting pitcher Bryce Miller settled down to allow only one more hit during his outing — a second-inning single hit by Blue Jays outfielder Anthony Santander. Miller departed after hurling six innings of one-run baseball, striking out three while walking three to earn the first playoff win of his career.

Providing Seattle an insurance run in the top of the eighth was Polanco, who hit another RBI single to extend the Mariners’ lead 3-1. Scoring the run was left fielder Randy Arozarena, who walked and then stole second and third base. Additionally, Polanco’s second RBI single of the night and his third in his last two games played.

Locking down the final three frames of the game for the Mariners were relief pitchers Gabe Speier, Matt Brash, and Andrés Muñoz, who each threw one scoreless inning while holding the Blue Jays hitless to secure the 3-1 win. Toronto’s two base hits tied for the least they had in a game during the 2025 season — a total they achieved three times during the regular season.

With their victory tonight, Seattle is now three wins away from reaching their first World Series appearance in franchise history.

Next Game: Monday, October 13th at Rogers Centre, Toronto, CA. First Pitch is scheduled for 2:03 p.m. PST.
